Medical Nutrition Therapy FAQs
How do I know if you’ll be a good fit for me?
If you’re someone that needs guidance figuring out what to feed yourself every week, someone who wants to eat what they like but keeps getting sucked back into diet culture, feeling stressed, confused, and overwhelmed when it comes to decoding everything you see about nutrition online…. we should get along just fine.
How will we meet?
Most of my clients are seen virtually, however, if you are located in Southern California we can meet in person if you would like.
How many sessions will we need to do?
In our sessions we will focus on nutrition education and behavior change. As we all know, behavior change takes time! For the first month, I typically recommend having weekly sessions with clients to check in, see how you are progressing on your goals, and address any roadblocks that come up so we can pivot quickly. I have found that this helps reduce frustration and can help keep up motivation throughout the week. After that, appointments will be scheduled in an agreed upon time frame.
How do I prepare for my first appointment?
After you schedule your initial appointment you will receive a few forms via email. Nutrition therapy clients will simply need to sign and submit. Easy peasy!
What does it cost?
Most Nutrition Therapy clients are able to see me for $0 with insurance using their preventative health benefits. If your insurance does not cover MNT (Medical Nutrition Therapy), we can discuss self-pay rates. Berry Street will always perform an insurance benefits check before your visit so there are no surprises for you.
Will my insurance cover one on one visits?
For clients seeking Medical Nutrition Therapy: (almost always) yes! Complete the questions when you go to book your appointment through Berry Street. Berry Street will perform an insurance check to see if we are eligible to work together based on your state and insurance plan. If for some reason your insurance does not cover visits, we can discuss next steps.
Do you create meal plans?
Yes! We will co-create a meal plan at your appointment. I am not able to provide meal plans outside of one on one sessions.
How do you address eating disorders (ED) or disordered eating (DE)?
I support clients with ED/DE in a nonjudgmental, weight-inclusive way that focuses on restoring regular eating patterns, nutritional stabilization, and supporting mental health treatment. In order to work with me, ED/DE clients must also be under the care of a medical provider and licensed mental health provider that I will communicate with regularly.
Do you support plant-based or specialty diets?
Absolutely. I can design balanced vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, kosher, halal, or other specialty diets while addressing nutrient needs and preventing deficiencies.
